Practical considerations: Protective glass, artist signature

I was wondering what everyone thinks about protective glass or plexiglass and artist signatures....?

Are you asking if we are for or against either of these?  -Jeff

And if you want to photograph the work, do it before you add the glass.  -Jeff

I have a practical approach....If I am going to consider myself an artist...then I need to assume if people pay money for a piece of my art, that dust will not destroy the piece in time, or alter it because of the dust, so I put glass on to protect it. I also sign my pieces in a unique way....signatures can be forged so I choose to put an italic paper label with the date and my name, also a brass nameplate on the back. I cannot write very well anyway so that IS my signature. I don't think everyone needs or has to do what I do. It is just what I do...and I do the pieces for myself....
