Uncanny is a Freudian concept where an instance can be something familiar, yet foreign at the same time, resulting in feeling uncomfortably strange or uncomfortably familiar. Uncanny feelings arise when there is an intellectual uncertainty about whether an object is alive or not, or when an object that one knows to be inanimate, resembles a living being enough to generate confusion. Dianne's mixed media assemblage boxes of found objects, doll parts, and intuitive imagery play on the edge of an unsettled consciousness beckoning the viewer to raise an eyebrow and lean in for an Uncanny closer look.
