I am starting to put the blog together for the Collage Centennial in preparation for the catalog. It is going to be massive! What is there now is only a small portion of the work for the show.

I'm following. It's exciting and tantalizing to see the new pieces as they come up online.

It is a huge undertaking, no question, but after spending years working  out a system and practicing it on previous shows, it goes pretty fast and I keep figuring out ways to streamline the process.

I was hoping to avoid reposting work from one blog to another, but in order to organize the catalog, I decided the best way to do it was to take the works that are specifically for the Centennial Catalog and put them in one place together so that nothing (hopefully) gets left out - it will be the online version of the catalog for this show. So each work is assigned a number for this show while keeping the original inventory number hence the number in brackets for each entry ([054] for example) followed by (OM.2011.167 for example). The 2010, 2011 and 2012 inventory blogs are to keep track of the 'absolute' inventory numbers which are divided by year. This is a fairly new strategy for me as far as organizing the collection as a whole and having public places where contributors and the public can see exactly what is happening and what is in the collection. By dividing them by year, I can go back in and continue to register works to the year they came in. Eventually I will do a blog for each year back to the beginning. I dream of a database where all works in the collection can be seen on one site but I don't have the skills or the money to hire someone to put that together. But in the meantime, this allows me to experiment with how to record, organize and maintain the collection in an online interface which will later be the material that I (or someone) will copy and paste into that eventual database so that the whole thing is organized like the MOMA website of something like that. That will be a wonderful day. I will need a big grant for that.

A huge undertaking, Cecil. Thanks for doing it.

Is the blog you list here the same as the 2011 Acquisitions one that I see at the Ontological Museum site? Looks like some of the work is the same and some is different.
