Brushes, Hammers, Paste and Nails
This is a collage made from recycled and discarded posters and is part of a body of work started years ago and essentially shows how much beauty can be created from the mundane and overlooked little treasures that we discard every day and throw away in the rubbish.
It is also about hope, the silver lining on the darkest cloud and about reshuffling and recycling our own ideas, preconceptions and paradigms and looking at the world with new and fresher eyes.
I called it "Symphony in Blue" because it is reminiscent of the ripples created when water hits the dark rocks. On a personal level water is a very important element in my life; throughout my travels and the various countries I have lived in , water was always in close proximity in the form of a river, an ocean a gulf or a sea .
Water is the the warm blanket that surrounds and protects us before birth and provides that secure feeling that remains forged forever in our subconscious.
Water is also life after birth , it is what rivers and seas are made of , it is about travels and messengers , knowledge and science , trade and exchange. It is also about joy and fear , ecstasy and caution , poetry and music and ultimately water is the unrivalled keeper of our darkest secrets for in it float our toxic waste , our hidden lies and buried truth .
