Though I've been working with mixed media montages for several years, last week I had the impetus to create with true glue. Tyler Heiserman, the son of a friend, an artist and poet in his own right, in addition to being an advocate for the homeless, the differently-abled and the mentally ill, died at the age of 30, and I became obsessed with doing a tribute piece. One of the things this wise young man had said to his mom, to paraphrase, is: " if I wore bandages to show mental struggles maybe people would understand that all wounds cannot be seen on the surface, but that it takes courage to live with them nevertheless."
May his words become a movement of international awareness for the mental health community. I created this for his beautiful soul and all the countless lives that soul touched.
(In October 2014, his mother gave me permission to use his name in this updated description.)

I hope others do not find this inappropriate for this site; Tyler's family is participating in a walk in his memory: http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.particip...
