My son and I just went over to San Francisco to catch the preview of Bonham and Butterfield's latest auction, coming up on May 3. Some interesting collages and assemblages there, including one by Kienholtz that's almost five feet wide. Here's the link to the online catalog, which is very nice: http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sConti...

If you don't know the man (who worked with his wife, Nancy) he's worth checking out. Big, funky 3-D pieces done maybe from the 50's to the 80's. I don't see any way to post a pic in this blog, but it's on my page now. It's like a shelf from an old building with all sorts of old stuff from tenement apartments, which he was fascinated by.

My friend John Reed lived at the Ferus Gallery as an in house artist when Kienholz and Wally Hopps were there in the 50's. I did a tribute website to them at www.ferusgallery.com and they were major influences on me as a young artist. John later lived in our studios but stopped doing art. We were just at the reopening of the Ferus Gallery earlier this year
Thanks for the heads up on the auction!
