Hello Stephen, reading the full text from 1924: yes, the dog survived. Doesn't mention forced - feeding.
For me, the article coming from veterinary medicine) containing so many 'assemblage elements', was a nice 'trait-du-union' with my current artistic endeavers.
Good god, did the dog survive? Was it force-fed?
