At the Edge of the Abyss (view 2)

Mixed Media Assemblage
This is a collaboration between myself and fellow Indianapolis artist Rachel Illingworth. Many years ago, my first mammogram revealed a mass in my left breast. Before surgery, I created a small version of this work, called Staring into the Abyss. The lump turned out to be a fibroadenoma. However, many years later I was diagnosed with cancer in the same breast. I asked Rachel to paint the box with her impression of the Abyss, and then added the manicurist's hand form touching a star, in the midst of a swirling firmament.
