On the 1st of March, Diet Wiegman (one of the most inspiring artists in the Netherlands at the moment - maybe people know him by his price winning documentary about his work made by Mike Redman, named Anagram) invited all his colleagues to visit the opening and start of his latest art project in the Museum of Gorinchem. He works for quit a long time now and made a lot of artwork. He destroyed many of them lately, because he is afraid that when he should die, his children will be charged by the government with lots of successierechten(sorry that is the word for money you have to pay over your inheritance.) Everybody knows that artwork can be very expensive, but it is really only worth something when it is actually bought. Before that it is just a piece of junk, maybe admired by some people, but nobody can pay the rent with admiration.
By destroying his former work he made a sculpture of all the pieces and invited everybody to take a piece of the pile and reform it in his or hers own way back into another sculpture.
Here you can see my creation. I named it : Piece of the Master (since I cannot make masterpieces myself yet) - Input/Outburst.
Everybody will take his or her creation back to the Museum where it will be displayed until the exhibition is over, after that everybody can take his or her work back home again.
