Computer-cut mat board, etched glass bearing the words “re member,” mustard seeds between three layers of glass and copper tape with patina; watercolor, ink, Craypas, tempera, charcoal and blood on two pages from Ovid’s Metamorphosis, with collage on 19th century engraving; tempera and watercolor over Xerox transfers (text from Genesis 1- 3, & 26) on 19th century book end pages, set into constructed wood frame.

I had the concept—to make a frame with a bridge to another frame—about five years before I actually made it. When my son was five, on a trip to the NY Planetarium, I came across the first vitrine at the museum which had in it many of the elements in the periodic table along with a quote by Walt Whitman: I believe a leave of grass is no less then the journey work of the stars. At that moment I realized how to use the idea for my first shaped frame piece.
Good concept and very unusual. This piece is a favorite.
