Yes, I carved the head out of basswood. Then I found tree roots sticking out of a bank on a dirt road. I was living in Fairbanks AK and I could find things like this all over. Then I skinned the roots, peeling off the outer dark layer. Then I boiled the roots in water. I found dowels of different sizes and wrapped the roots around them--limber when wet and boiled. Then I let them dry. When unwound--presto! Curly hair!

Did you carve this head, and what a process to get that effect with the tree roots!  Where did that idea/technique come from?  I can feel Ariel rising!
