What a rich collection. Thanks for sharing these pieces. I appreciate, (and perhaps envy just a little) the imagery, texture, lines and how they all work together to create these lush, compelling, thoughtful collages.
I am honored that you were moved to write me. Your work is very engaging and beautiful; your hand is wonderfully light......I am particularly moved by Le Sognera del Sempre. A wonderful use of the odd fellows! What is your connection to Italy? How do you do what you do with glue washes? I have many questions!
Thanks Todd, I started to really dislike what I was doing and took a break. I seem stuck lately and have not been on this site for some time. Your work has inspired me maybe I can start to finish some of the pieces that have been sitting now. Glad you shared the weirdness of the bug thing. Crucified was apt.One question, Do you construct you own boxes? I used to be a carver, primitive, and also did large carved signs which I boxed in. My issue now is the price of framing, simply can't swing it on the large pieces.
Hi Todd, I wish I could say there was a guiding principle but right now I really relish the little things, the opportunities and connections that present themselves when I sifting through all my detritus looking for that right piece. The spontaneity is the thing for me lately...maybe that is a guiding principle?
Thanks so much Todd - it's mutual appreciation - I love your work!
Yes I'm very much drawn to anything pre 1940 really it's the colours, textures and smells of the materials - I particularly love the memories and emotions they might hold. I pick up stuff that has been discarded and hope to work it back in to say something about the emotions all of us experience and how we experience memory.
Thank you for going above and beyond as a curator, artist and teacher, not only going through the rigors of the selection process, but then putting together a book of "Strange Glue", and even a virtual exhibition of those who didn't make the physical space, http://thompsongallery.blog.com/image-gallery-strange-glue-virtual-... Your energy must be boundless!
Love the reference to Duchamp...In my former life edited the autobio of ceramicist Beatrice Wood, I Shock Myself. She was one of his lovers, and her work was influenced by him...in fact, she had a piece at the 1912 NY Armory Show (which is getting some recent attention). Duchamp was the first to bring pure function into the definition of art... LS
Todd, I'm very inspired by your work which I've now had some time to explore...the relationship with nature, and the commitment to collage and assemblage (which is nature itself) and also the ultimate recycler..something you recognized as your calling early in your career. You've given me inspiration, and confidence. LS

Hi Todd,
Speaking of the best stuff on this site, are you going to document Strange Glue?
Catalog/book, maybe? A lot of work but could be stunning.
Regards,
Ken
