Strange Glue (Traditional and Avant-garde Collage) Catalog

I am very pleased to announce that the accompanying catalog to the Strange Glue (Traditional and Avant-garde Collage) exhibition is now available at Lulu.com.

With 206 pages, a page dedicated to each of the 134 works in the show, a full essay, and exhibition documentation, this record of the first of three shows this year would  have been a very costly project to publish. Printing on demand turns out to be an affordable way for everyone to obtain a copy. The cost is just under $50.00 + shipping. If you are interested in obtaining a copy, please follow the below link:

I am happy to announce the second of four catalogs, Virtual Annex for the exhibition series is now available at Lulu.com:

http://www.lulu.com/shop/todd-bartel/virtual-annex-strange-glue-tra...

Virtual Annex is a sister exhibition to the Strange Glue (Traditional & Avant-garde Collage) exhibition, which is only viewable online at thompsongallery.blog.com. While the analog show focused on art-historical categories of collage, spanning the last 100 years, Virtual Annex examines immaterial glues, such as emotional glue, associative glue and conceptual glue to name only a few.

I am so pleased to hear your experience Diane, Yes they have been really great in that way. They made several errors with me regarding giving me erroneous information about how to correct a minor problem with the bleed pages at the beginning and end of the book and what they asked me to do altered every image and text container! I had to completely reconstruct the book, and then re-upload it and when I did I got an error message because I was given faulty info. That happened three separate times, three separate people giving me bad info. That is why it took me a month to correct and get this the way that I finally rectified the InDesign file was the way I had originally uploaded the project! They were very apologetic, are using my case to rework the way the deal with bleeds and they gave me a big discount on my next order as well as agreed to reprint the 27 copies that were bad. So although they clearly had issues with helping me, in the end they were very professional and did right by me. Even though I had an exceptionally difficult time, I would highly recommend Lulu to anyone. If you multiply 27 times the cost of the catalog as well as the 6 I ordered that they are also reprinting free of charge as well as expedited shipping, they are really going out of their way to do right by me. They have my respect and my devoted patronage.

Jeff, I am so please you received the corrected catalog, which is the printing from the file I uploaded immediately after receiving my order of 6 copies with the faulty pagination. That file does have a slight fault regarding the bleeds, but it was a very minor problem. It was trying to correct that problem that resulted in having to remake my file three times, a process that took about a month of very hard and tedious work. Everything is all good now though and I am just now publishing a second catalog for the show. I ordered my proof before I made the catalog available. I have learned from experience to get my copy first before putting it up for sale! Once I have cleared my proof, I'll let everyone know about the forthcoming publication, which is a sister show to the one you have the catalog for.

Best, todd

The copy I ordered a week ago and that was delivered today has even numbered pages on the left hand side and all the images away from the binding. I assume that means the underlying issue has been corrected, and anyone can order without fear of getting the uncorrected (and now strangely collectible) defective version.  -Jeff

Todd, Lulu was very quick to respond. I filled out their form yesterday and today have a new order at their expense. I was worried that I would have to send the first one back but they did not request that. Thanks!

Dear Artists,

For over a month now I have been aware of a major problem with the Strange Glue Catalog. The pagination is off by one page, which resulted in the even numbered pages being placed on the right hand side, when the design called for even numbered pages to be on the left side. This issue resulted with the undesirable outcome of all the page numbers and all the images falling into the binding, making it difficult to see the images. The Catalog was designed for the page numbers and the images to fall on the outsides of all the pages.
Well, after a very long and tedious process of going back and forth with Lulu, they have impressively agreed to reprint each copy free of charge. I know of at least 27 flawed copies that have been published. If your copy of the catalog has the page numbers falling into the binding, then all you need to do is to go to the following webpage:
Click on the top left option called "Help With My Order" and then fill out the form field.
I apologize for this inconvenience, but if you file a claim for your copy, Lulu will reprint your order.

Hi Jeff,

The general answer is yes, I am there during school days, but the school and gallery are closed during the weekends. I try to accommodate the requests to open the gallery for anyone who wants to come on the weekends or holidays etc. Since I am a full time teacher, if you wanted to see me during your visit, i would need to know the timing of your visit. I recommend sending me an email at thompsongallery@csw.org to set up the details and I would send you directions, and campus map etc. It would be great to meet you and I would indeed be happy to sign the book. --Todd

Jeff,

Sorry to say, no. There are no signed copies or any copies available at the gallery. It is on demand publishing only. Interested persons would have to purchase the catalog, myself included, at the Lulu website.
